While arriving commuters will benefit today, May 24, when the new line opens in separate segments, the biggest impact will come later this year when the Elizabeth line sections are fully connected, allowing commuters to airlines have a direct train service from Heathrow to major parts of central London. , Canary Wharf and beyond.

A new metro option
As London authorities confirmed the new Elizabeth Line was in full swing to open this week, the city's transit agency incorporated the new line into its sprawling, historicSubway map and rails.
Once fully combined this autumn, the line, with its new trains accommodating 1,500 trains, will start in the west with a service from Reading or Heathrow, traveling through central London, Liverpool Street and Canary Wharf, to Abbey Wood or Shenfield in the east.

In total, the Elizabeth line will span 41 stations, including 10 new-build stations in key parts of London.
London authorities see this new line as a way to reduce congestion at London Underground stations, increase the city's rail capacity and, a key benefit for commuters, make Heathrow more accessible.
The line, which suffered years of delays during its construction and cost more than £18.3bn, will feature newly dug tunnels and new stations built specifically for the line, including Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, Liverpool Street . , Whitechapel, Canary Wharf, Custom House, Woolwich and Abbey Wood.

A staged opening
As the teams continue to work to complete all aspects of the Elizabeth Line project, it will be something of a phased opening.
From Tuesday 24 May you will be able to travel on the line through the new city center tunnels, from Paddington to Abbey Wood.
On the same day, existing rail services between the airport and Paddington (as well as the routes between Reading and Paddington and between Shenfield and Liverpool Street) will be "rebranded" as the Elizabeth Line. For now, though, you'll need to change trains to connect to the new line's central route through the city: if you arrive at Heathrow, that change will be at Paddington.
However, by the end of this year, the system is expected to be fully integrated, at which point you'll be able to take the Elizabeth line from Heathrow through the city, including Canary Wharf, to Abbey Wood.
Today's changes went into effect at 6:30 a.m., and officials said this week that the new stations were in the final stages of preparation.
What you will pay on the Elizabeth Line
Once the Elizabeth Line opens on Tuesday, it won't ferry travelers from the airport to Heathrow as quickly as the 15-minute one-way journey on the Heathrow Express, but it will be much cheaper than its £25 fare.
A journey between the airport and Paddington will cost £10.70 or £12.70 during peak hours. Compared to the Heathrow Express, it will be a bit slower, around 28 minutes, with several stops along the way.
While it's not your best option if you're in a hurry to catch a flight, it's certainly more affordable than the Heathrow Express, especially when you consider this: Transport for London, which oversees the system, limits daily spending in Zones 1-6 (the areas you're most likely to travel to in London as a visitor) for £14.10...so when traveling from the airport to Paddington you'll be well on your way to maximizing everyday spend.
Now, as mentioned, the Elizabeth line will not be as cheap as the existing tube service to Heathrow. Right now the London Underground service from the city center to Heathrow costs around £3.50 or £5.50 during peak hours.
You'll want to weigh convenience, station locations, and your timeline when deciding how to get to your destination city, but again, that just means additional options for travelers, which is always a good thing.
Hotels along the new line
While the new line is truly a game changer, with trains running directly from Heathrow to major stops in London, travelers moving across the city will be able to take advantage of the Elizabeth Central Line service right away.
Many of the new stations on the line are close to or within moderate walking distance of popular city destinations and not far from the hotels you can book with points when visiting London.

Take the Elizabeth Line's new Tottenham Court Road station in London, for example. If you were to travel from the airport to this station (again, with a train change in Paddington for now, but no train change in the autumn), it could be just a few minutes' walk (less than a mile) at the Waldorf Hilton London, a 19º20th century hotel building a few minutes from the Royal Opera House, the British Museum, Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square.
Those wishing to use Marriott Bonvoy points can walk half a mile from Liverpool Street Station toneedles, an Autograph Collection property in the former Victorian City Bank building with an impressive stained glass dome in the lobby.
Meanwhile, if you want to stay in the Canary Wharf area, you can take a footbridge over the water from Canary Wharf station on the line to the Hilton London Canary Wharf, close to the neighborhood's offices, shops and restaurants.
